FINALY got my CCW Class taken care of

Ive been putting it off for a few years now, just out of lethargy and stupidity.

Well, about 5k CCW permit request are being sent into the state every month here in florida. So A friend of mine and I went last night and got the class and fingerprints out of the way. Just got to send it in to the Florida Dep of Agri with a 117$ M.O. and wait about 4 months.

But at least Im good to go!

I suggest to any that can get them and hasnt yet, do it!

Congrats Heimy! Now I will know that you indeed have a gun in your pocket, and are not just glad to see me.

Still about 1 year and 4 months away from being 21 though. :banghead: Oh well, I have my pepper spray. Weirdly enough, it's from Lou's Police Supply. Don't know if you've heard of it. How much was the class?

Class was 70$ after taxes and fingerprint charge, but they threw in ammo for free, so its all good.

you need to come up one day brother, well hit a coin show and the range or something.

sounds pretty decent and free ammo too. yes I haven't been out of my city in a while and never been to a coin show.

the ccw lets you pack more than one hidden right? got any idea which ones you'll be packing? my friend helps people get their gun license I haven't gotten around to it yet

Florida will accept a DD214, if you have one, in lieu of the class. I discovered that nugget as I was writing the check for the class.

Not only that Tom but it normally cuts the processing time in half.

Yep, it certainly does, but you are still fairly limited in where you can 'legaly' carry, but then again, if its properly concealed, whos gonna know, right?

I have a bersa thunder .45 UC as my main, but might go with something a bit smaller. Im getting my wife a Kel Tec P3at or f9(?) so she can pocket carry at work and what not. Ill get in IWB holster and see how I like walking around with my .45 and decided, for far around the house it feels ok, until i sit down!

Were going shooting this weekend, you should come on up! :P

That is true. The fried I was with was also a viet nam vet. We were both going to just go that route, but he wanted to take the class just to brush up on the law and ask questions he was unsure of. I was fairly familiar with the law, but figured for 60 bucks, I could stand to take a class. Turns out I could have skipped it and just been as well off, since I didnt really learn anything, but I still glad I went.

BTW, me and my 'nam vet friend were the two best shots there! SEMPER FI! lol. Some of those people I'm a little scared knowing they own a gun.

The instructer was asking questions like "What is cover and concealment?" No one new and after a long, akward pause, I had to answer.

Or, "you're sitting in a parking lot and you see an armed man running from the gas station with a bag of cash, do you get out and shoot him, or try to stop him" Some were like "um..erm....yeah, I think I should right?"

Some of them seemed a little vigilante, dirty harry, but nothing too extreme, just unfamiliar with the law and protocol.

Had I known that, I would have done that! Thats good to hear. However, they are seriously, seriously behind. The instructer said as of last month, they had 157 of those big white US Mail bins full of nothing but CCW Apps just sitting up in Tallahasee.

Someone here in OH posted that she needed 100 rounds of 380 to take her class. She ended up paying $40 a box or $80 for ammo just for the class! She probably shot it all up and still has no ammo for the gun.

Wow, really?

We were only required to shoot a total of 18 rounds to qualify. 12 slow fire, shot by shot, and 6 rounds for 3 sets of double taps. As long as the target didnt look like a shot gun blew it away and the 18 shots were generaly on the paper at 15 feet, you passed.

The range didnt have an .380 ammo for my friends bersa, so he borrowed mine so together we used less than one box of ammo. Left over ammo was used to just have fun with or keep, whatever we wanted to do with it.

.380 is almost as expenisve as .45 to boot, suprisingly enough.
